A Compact History Of Judaism

Owen Jones | April 25, 2011

It has been worked out that around 80% of the world’s population believe in one religion or another (and there are lots of them), but about 70% of those are adherents to the big four. The four biggest religions are: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. Judaism is the forerunner of both Islam and Christianity.

The Hebrew Bible retells the history of the world and the story of the journey of the people from creation, through the flood to the arrival in the Promised Land, or from Mesopotamia to Canaan, led by Abraham.

The descendants of Abraham and his people were enslaved by the Egyptians and did not manage to escape until Moses led them out of captivity. During this journey, Moses was given the Ten Commandments from God and they went on to be the bedrock of Jewish law and custom although there is no doubt that the Jewish way of life has developed from this period in the Tenth Century before Christ.

The sacred writings of the Hebrew Bible or Masorah are separated into twenty-four books. However, the same texts are divided up into thirty-nine books in the Chirtian Bible’s Old Testament. The Torah or The Law was being composed at this time but it was altered and updated between the Tenth and Fifth Centuries before Christ.

In addition to the Hebrew scriptures, there is a rich tradition of ancient oral commentary known as the Talmud, which is a colossal compilation of the Oral Law. The Talmud is the traditional authority for Orthodox Jews.

Judaism is the most ancient monotheistic religion known to the West. Jews believed in one God whilst all of the known world believed in pantheism or many gods like the Ancient Greeks. The name of God in the Jewish language is Yahweh and they believe that Yahweh agreed a covenant with His people to take care of them for ever as long as they remained devoted exclusively to him.

In the Jewish faith, sin is the unashamed disrespect of God’s will and that is punishable by God in a similar fashion to the Buddhist belief in karma.. The objective of following God’s Law is being welcomed into His Kingdom.

Jews worship in synagogues in congregations led by Rabbis who are considered Teachers or Masters (as in the old manner of calling teachers, ‘masters’) rather than as monks or vicars. The Jewish Sabbath is not the Sunday as in Christianity, but is observed from sunset Friday until sunset Saturday night.

The most significant holidays or holy days in the Jewish calendar are: Rosh Hashanah (New Year); Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement); Hanukah (Festival of Lights) and Pesach (Passover). The Jewish nation does not celebrate Christmas because they believe that the Son of God is still yet to be born. They see Jesus as a prophet in the same manner as the Muslims do.

There are three predominant branches of modern Judaism which are: Orthodox Judaism; Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism. Some of these branches of Judaism are more prevalent in some countries than others.

Heal Your Back Today With Complementary Therapies

Nicole Lanning | April 23, 2011

Many people do not understand that they can work with different types of complementary therapies in their life together back pain issues. I was one of them for many years, even with my background of understanding how these therapies work, as I thought the typical traditional route was to go with surgery when I was faced with my own severe back pain issues dealing with a pinched nerve and a spinal misalignment.

When I first begin with my own back pain issues I really didn’t understand how to work with and alternative therapy because I think Reiki healing or crystal healing can actually move some of the bones to release the nerve in my back. This is where a big misconception comes into play, because Reiki energy healing and crystal healing can actually do a lot of different positive work for any issues that you’re facing with these back pain needs. You can work with them today to be free of your back pain.

Now there are a ton of different back problems that can go on in some of the physical body. I’m not even going to try to get into all of the different areas that could be affected, because each one is going to be a little bit different and unique. But you can understand the underlying common thread of all of them, you can work on healing all of them in your life the releasing and purging techniques. This can help deal with all of the pain that you are facing at any given moment. I use these techniques for my own back pain issues with a rotated hip and a spinal misalignment.

The two different things that I like to work with for these issues was working with energy healing and crystal healing. For an energy healing session make sure to pull from your crown chakra through universal source for your self-healing issues to correct all that negative and stagnant energy that is accumulated focusing around your back pain issues. You can also incorporate crystal healing for this type of work by using hematite and smoky quartz crystals. Make sure the crystals are thoroughly cleansed and programmed before you use them for healing session.

You can work on healing all the back issues that you’re facing at any given moment through some of the similar types of methods. They are easy and fun to work with, so get started on healing your life a little bit more naturally today.

Investing In Gold – The Basics

Owen Jones | June 25, 2010

A very diversified investment portfolio has a minor opening for a position in gold. Some people think that investing in gold means buying gold coins, usually South African Kruger Rands, which are one troy ounce in weight. Other speculators buy gold futures on the commodity exchange.

However, futures contracts are tremendously precarious because you are gambling that the price of gold will rise or fall in the future. The contract itself requires a relatively small up front payment, but you will have to put up guarantees called margin to take care of daily changes in price.

The reason investors are attracted to gold at the moment is because often in the past, when the stock market is down, the gold market is up. Weakness in the dollar frequently brings a rise in the price of gold too.

Another method of investing in gold is through stocks and precious metal funds, which can be purchased through a stock broker. However, you will need to select your stockbroker very carefully, because this field of investing requires highly expert knowledge.

The following tips are meant as examples only as you will need up-to-the-minute information, if you are considering investing in stocks, shares and funds. One of the names that will come up in any search is Agnico-Eagle Mines, which trades on the NYSE and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker AEM. They have 30+ year history in the production of gold and In that time, they have produced 4,000,000+ ounces of gold.

Gold has made massive profits for investors in gold since the late 1970′s. However, the key to making profits from gold is knowledge of the different resistance points in the price and the evaluation of the global market for the use of gold. It is used primarily in jewellery and electronics and some other types of manufacturing.

The largest markets for gold jewellery is India and other Eastern countries. China’s new-found affluence is also having an effect on the markets, although manufacturing is still of leading importance there.

You will need a good stockbroker or adviser, because the gold market is so complex. If you are investing in gold as a hedge against a weak dollar, you are taking huge risks and you will need to watch for any strengthening in the dollar like a hawk. A pretty sensible tactic is to set yourself realistic goals. For example, are you content with a 10% profit or are you going to hang out for a 25% gain?

Gold can be affected by seasonal events. Check out when people in India get married. It is seasonal and around Christmas time. Then St. Valentine’s Day is a realistic influence too, but you or your adviser will have to examine the trends and the graphs.

You can invest in gold mining stocks for quite small money, but it is not the cost of the share certificate that is important, it is the return on those shares. Be on your guard with small mining companies, because the overheads of exploration are ruinous. Likewise, profits on hitting a big seam would be wonderful for a small company.

The Ancient History Of Barry, South Wales: Part Two

Owen Jones | June 16, 2010

Barry Castle belonged to William de Barri in the 12th. Century, but was destroyed by Llewellyn Bren in 1316. Some say it was later rebuilt and used by the Cavaliers only to be destroyed again by the Roundheads, never to be reconstructed.

The Normans were hated by the locals and they had to build large mansions to protect themselves from the frequent attacks carried out on them from the people of the valleys and mountains. During the time of Henry III, there were 12 castles within six miles of Barry. In Glamorgan, there were 30 castles and in south Wales as a whole, 150.

Porthkerry and the church to its west is said to have taken its name from Ceri, who, it is said, founded a port ‘Port Ceri’. It is believed that Ceri ap Caid, the King of Essyllwg, lived in Porthkerry before the Christian era. His bard, Corvinor, is stated to have been the first to have built a ship with sails and a rudder for the race of Cymru. Some believe that Ceri was a nephew or grandson of Caractacus (Caradog) and that he assumed the head of government in south Wales when Caractacus was sent to Rome.

John Wesley preached in the Porthkerry Church and sometimes outside in the churchyard too between 1741 and 1743. Today, there are two very old churches still in use in Barry: St. Cadocs Church in Cadoxton and Merthyr Dyfan Church in Merthyr Dyfan. One-hundred-and-fifty years ago, Cadoxton was the largest village in the Barry area: thus, in 1844 the Parliamentary register contained 25 names: 20 from Cadoxton and five from Barry. The one church was dedicated to St. Cadoc, who had been accustomed to spend Lent on Flat Holm and Barry Island. The village (Cadoc’s Town)took its name from the church, which was founded in 800 AD.

Merthyr Dyfan Church, situated in the north of Barry, was founded in 600 AD and the name means Dyfan The Martyr. There were two saints of this name: one journeyed to Barry to convert the inhabitants to Christianity; the second lived in the Sixth Century and was the son of a Welsh chieftain. His sister was also martyred and the town of Merthyr Tydfil is named after her.

The Christian faith grew exponentially in the Vale of Glamorgan and in the middle of the 2nd. Century, Llewrwg, Prince of Siluria, became the first king, anywhere in the world of all time, to be baptized into the Christian faith. He sent to Rome for more Chritian teachers and was sent Dyfan and Fagan. The former was martyred near the site of the church and the latter was canonized. St. Fagan’s just outside Cardiff was named after him.
