Weighted Clothing Is Ideal For Most Situations Inside and Outside of the Gym
William Douglas | January 16, 2012To help burn calories faster and produce better results, one option is to add additional resistance to any regular workout. There are many different ways to perform resistance training. The most popular is by lifting free weights such as dumbbells.
Another option people use is to wear weighted clothing such as a weighted vest to make their workouts harder. Weights for your ankles and wrists can also be used during your workouts or during your everyday activities.
The greatest advantage of wrist and ankle weights is their mobility. For people on the go, who travel a lot, squeezing in some exercise can be a challenge. These weights are usually available in small increments and can go wherever you go, so are a good temporary method of fitting some exercise into your travel schedule.
Because they’re so small, they can easily be worn under clothing and no one would notice. Simple tasks such as walking to work or typing on a keyboard suddenly become exercises. At the end of the work day they can also be used as aides in stretching.
Although, the weight increments are small, using these weights either in isolation or as a combination can help develop muscles and sculpt parts of your body with regular use. There are also adjustable varieties that allow you to add or take off weight for variable resistance.
If you, like me, love the outdoors, adding ankle weights, wrist weights or a weight vest to your walk or jog is perfect. I love exercising outdoors, but bringing dumbbells with me on my jog, run or walk is difficult. Weighted clothing is perfect and doesn’t take up my hands.
Since these weights are strapped to your wrist and ankle joints, they need to be small weights to minimize injury to the joints. Wrist and ankle weights are not appropriate for serious muscle building where you are targeting larger muscle groups like thigh or chest muscles.
If larger muscles are what your after, then dumbbells are ideally the best way to develop larger leg and arm muscles. There many resistance exercises that can help develop these muscles, and ankle and wrist weights can work in tandem with them very well.
