Simple Auto Transport – Are you Ready?

Tom Kearns | December 29, 2011

With relocation due to promotion or for personal reasons, an everyday occurrence in this mobile society of ours, more and more people are finding the need to transport their vehicles over long distances. Some may have cars with trailers, some will have rare or antique cars, some will have that ever-useful family sedan. Driving any of these across long distances is not a desirable task nor a safe one. If you must move your vehicle a long way, consider a professional auto transport company. They are abundant, and exist to assist you with an array of services offered to suit your every need.

One should be cautious when considering land transportation of a vehicle. An open container carrier leaves it at the mercy of road debris, inclement weather, and bouncing about. If we are talking about an old, rare, vintage type of car here, the damages could be irreparable. On the other hand, the mere act of loading and unloading the vehicle into a closed container can damage it as well.

For a customer uncomfortable with one shipping method, there are many other available alternatives. Cars can be shipped by ferry or plane. These services involve less driving, though not necessarily less handling. Considering the services of small, unreliable shipping companies and then opting for air transport may not be the wisest decision, however. Transportation by plane is faster, though not necessarily safer, while it is definitely much more expensive. In fact, the best method is to choose one reliable company out of the many nominal shipping companies which exist and opt for the most straightforward way: the carrier will then make sure that they secure and insure your car.

Obviously, auto shipping companies offer the services that will make the process of getting your car to its new destination the simplest for you. There are multiple carriers to be found no matter where your car is located. There is only a small number of carriers who have a good reputation and reasonable prices. Hiring an auto transportation company to move a vehicle is becoming more popular because they are easy to find and you don’t have to worry about getting it to its new home by yourself.

The cost of this service does not have to be exorbitant. There are companies available to do this for you at reasonable prices. As a matter of fact they may save you money over driving the car yourself. You already know they will save you time and stress. The fees are based on the weight and size of your vehicle and the points of origin and destination.

There are two basic types of car transport: open transport enclosed transport. Transportation is usually done via train or via transport trailers. Open car transports are standard. They are usually chosen for the lesser distances and simpler jobs; they are therefore usually the cheaper option. Enclosed transport is more expensive: 27 -75 % premium depends upon the size of the car and the car transport trailer or SUV. Enclosed transport is the safer, more reliable method by which to transport expensive or rare vehicles. Delivery time depends on destination and type of service, but even international shipping usually does not last much more than three weeks.

Today’s transport industry consists of many dependable companies with excellent cross-country services. When searching out a service,, look for local and nationwide companies. Nearly all are properly licensed and will be happy to show you their credentials. Get a hold of a shipping directory or go online to simplify your search Most companies will be listed under headings like car transport, car shipping, vehicle shipping, vehicle transport and auto transport.

Gearbox Repairs Can Improve Your Car’s Pickup

Henry Taylor | July 13, 2011

The gearbox is housed inside the transmission and works to provide the propulsion of your car. It converts the engine speed into torque and the torque, or movement against resistance, is what moves your car. If you are having problems with your car switching gears, or sounding like it is racing but not moving, it is time to start looking into gearbox repairs. Unless you have a lot of experience with repairing your car, this is an issue you should contact a professional about. Many do-it-yourself mechanics have tried to repair their own transmissions and then carried a bag of parts to the mechanic. Obviously, this is more expensive. Keep your transmission in good shape and you will add years to the life of your car.

If your car is hesitating and just not moving the way it should, it might be time to look at gearbox repairs. The way it works in a manual transmission is that when you push the clutch, the gear is disengaged and can move to a different gear. On automatic cars, there is no clutch to push, it is actually inside the transmission. There is a hydraulic system that changes gears depending on the fluid pressure.

Unless you have experience repairing your own car, you might not want to try to repair it yourself. It can be complicated and very messy. It is usually best to find a professional who can fix it for you. There are many companies in the yellow pages, or online, that can help you. Get a reference from a friend to confirm that this is the right mechanic for you.

Reputation is everything, so get a mechanic that has a good one. If your repair service is thorough and saves replaced parts to show you what was wrong, they are probably a good garage to use. The first step will be when the mechanic takes your car for a drive to see how it acts.

Get an estimate when the professional has determined what the problem is. It can be very expensive, both in time and parts, to have your transmission repaired. If you feel uncomfortable with what they tell you, you can get a second opinion. But do not go for the least expensive, they are not always the most cost-effective. While you are at it, check into rebuilt gearboxes or transmissions. They may be less expensive.

After your garage has agreed there is a problem, they will take it apart for a visual inspection. Often, worn or broken pieces can be the problem. The transmission fluid can also provide some clues. Finding metal filings in it indicate excessive wearing.

The best garage for you is one that has extensive experience with your car model, with transmissions, and one that has a good reputation. If they save parts for you to look at after the repair, it is a good indication that they are honest and working with your well-being in mind. They will replace the fluid and any other parts, as needed. Sometimes it is best to replace other worn parts that are not actually broken at the same time. Replacing only some of the parts might cause undue wear on the new parts.

If your car is just not moving the way it should, and you feel it slipping, it is time to look into gearbox repairs. Find a professional who will do a good job. The least expensive garage is not always the best one. Look into having the gearbox repaired or replaced. When getting a replacement, you can save a lot of money by getting a rebuilt gearbox. Check into all the options available so you can get back on the road again.

Steps Designed For Removing The Steering Box So Gearbox Repairs Can Be Completed

Henry Taylor | June 26, 2011

Modern vehicles are equipped with power assisted steering modules that tend to wear out over time. Because of this gearbox repairs are required and this can be done using specialized tools and some knowledge. The steps required to replace the internal parts can be found online and installed in a home garage if a person has the necessary equipment.

In most cases the repair jobs will be performed by shops that specialize in this type of work. For the jobs that are done by home mechanics, the parts need to be purchased. In order to get the correct parts the first time there are a few things that are required including make, model and year of the vehicle. The replacement items are available for purchase online or in a local parts store.

Normal and special tools are needed when working on a project such as this and these include a hammer, screw driver and wrench set. Special items include a spanner wrench, pitman arm remover and a set of snap ring pliers. A solid floor jack and strong jack stands will also be required for the removal process.

Other items will be required as well such as power steering fluid, a screw driver, hammer and a set of wrenches. Before continuing it is very important to practice safety, without safety the chances of accidents increase dramatically. To reduce the chances of a vehicle falling off a jack during this process, jack stands are used to support the vehicle.

When the vehicle has been set onto the jack stands, the pitman arm is removed from the drag link by taking out the cotter pin that holds them together. The removal tool is pressed in between the arm and the drag link and then hit with a hammer to remove them from each other. After they are separated the tension nut is next to be taken off in order to proceed with the removal.

Once the arm and link have been separated, the tension bolt needs to be removed from the rag joint assembly. Finally the hydraulic hoses need to be removed and this is where the wrenches are used, open ended models are the best ones for this part of the job. Practice extreme care when removing the hoses so they are not damaged during the removal process.

When the box has been removed it is recommended that the person takes it to a specialty repair shop to have it repaired. Once everything is fixed it is ready to be reinstalled using the same techniques that were used during the removal process. When everything is reconnected the unit is filled up with fluid and the vehicle is started and the repair job is put to the test.

Gearbox repairs are something that is required on all types of vehicles that make use of a steering wheel. When a person wants to learn how to do the work themselves it is recommended that they purchase a used box from a junk yard. This will allow them to practice on the unit prior to doing the work on the real thing.

We believe you need to learn more about gearbox repairs right now – we also want to tell you more on gearbox problems.

WeatherShield Car Covers – Ultimate Protection

Jim Martin | June 17, 2011

It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about Spring and Summer car storage. Car covers have been proven to help protect your vehicle, both indoors and outdoors. They offer a great custom fit and come in a wide variety of different patterns. For every-day use, you can get the best protection from a Covercraft WeatherShield Car Cover.

Exceptional characteristics of the WeatherShield car cover include: Waterproof – water beads and runs off as soon as the water hits the cover. Dust Protection – dirt, moisture, and other pollutants are stopped by the copyrighted fiber encapsulation process. Scratch Protection – Tested at 1,000 cycles on abrasion wheels, the Weathershield prevents scratching and has a silky smooth finish to the fabric which is gentle on your vehicle’s finsh. Breathable Material – the polymers and fabric allow any heat or condensation under the cover to be let out and avoid damage. UV Protection – the vehicle’s finish and interior are protected from sun damage by special additives in the fabric of the cover.

The process used to make the extraordinary WeatherShield fabric is to place an ultra thin film around the fabric fibers which precisely places a durable and breathable barrier within the fabric. Unlike customary coatings and laminations that just guard one side of the fabric WeatherShield uses 40 mechanized procedures to place protective polymers right into the fabric. This method allows air to circulate through the material but guarantees moisture, dust and pollutants are kept away from the vehicle’s finish.

The process to mold the special polymers and the threads together is known as the Nextec encapsulation method. It ensures the breathability and creates the dust, water, and uv protection needed to properly safeguard your car or truck. Here, the silicon polymers fill the empty areas between the weave pattern and make the protective barrier.

If you need to store your vehicle for days, weeks, or months at a time; a car cover will offer impecable results. Take care of your primary vehicle; or put the SUV in storage, and bring out the convertible. Whatever your car storage needs are, take advantage of the awesome technology and protection from Weathershield car covers.

Cover It Up: Why It’s Important to Protect Your Car With Car Seat Covers

Adam Ciboch | June 4, 2011

After they get it out on the road people who buy cars of any sort are usually concerned about how to maintain their appearance. From just simply driving and parking your car outside on a regular basic, there are a lot of hazards that could befall it. Most peoples’ concerns are about keeping the exterior of their car looking shiny and new, and that makes sense as a consequence. However, there is another element that requires consideration.

The interior of your car may not get you as many admiring looks as the exterior, but ensuring it remains clean is just as important. You as the car owner will be the one seeing the interior on a daily basis. And if you commute to work like most people do, there’s a lot that could go wrong, in terms of keeping your car’s interior clean.

What is the likelihood that you’ll be able to go through every single morning without managing to spill even just a drop or two onto a car seat, if you enjoy coffee, for example? If you’re rushing, the odds are probably not high that you’ll avoid doing this. You’ll likely end up needing to dump the remains of a fast food run onto the backseat of your car in lieu of actually throwing it out immediately, if you ever go out to grab fast food on the rush. As though it’s tissue paper, grease can soak through paper bags. Three guesses where all that grease will end up if you throw a bag onto your car’s backseat.

You should consider car seat covers as an option to address this issue. Car seat covers come in many different fabric choices, all of which effectively combat wear and tear and ensure your car seat covers underneath remain nice and clean. If you’re ever considering reselling your car in the future, car seat covers are a definite lifesaver, as your chances of having to reupholster your car seats after using them is much lower. And for those with more eclectic tastes, seat covers will fit right into your life quite easily. With car seat covers, polka dots and zebra stripes are just some of your pattern options. You can choose whatever you like.

Just remember that with seat covers already installed, any messes you make the next time you stop out for fast food on the go shouldn’t be a problem at all. If you have a busy lifestyle, seat covers should be just the right amount of coverage to keep your car’s interior protected.
