Many people like to have bronzed skin. Athletes, people who train in gyms, people with high-profile jobs, executives and many more prefer to have an even, all year tan. Then there are those who like to begin their tan before they go on holiday to a hot destination. This is very sensible, because it is too much of a shock to the skin to go from no sun to 40c in one day. It is far better to prepare your skin to get used to higher temperatures before you go.

This is all very well if you have your home in a hot part of the country, but if you did you would not need to keep topping your tan up anyway. Therefore people turn to tanning beds, tanning booths and tanning lamps. Some people purchase their own tanning bed or booth, but most people go to a tanning salon. If you have a spare room and some spare money, owning your own tanning bed is definitely a supreme luxury.

Owning your own tanning bed means that you do not have to plan trips to the tanning salon, that there is no travelling or waiting and that your tanning bed is always waiting for you. However, you will be unsupervised, so it is a very good idea to read up on the health and safety advice linked with tanning beds. There should have been a booklet with the tanning bed when you bought it, but if you bought it second hand it could have been mislaid.

If your safety booklet has been mislaid, you could write to the manufacturers and offer to pay for a replacement or you could just go by the general advice that applies to all tanning beds. Another good idea is to have a few sessions at a tanning salon and learn as much as you can. However, in general, treat your tanning bed as you would the sun in the tropics, that is with a great deal of respect.

The first thing you certainly have to do before getting onto your tanning bed is rub a sun tan lotion which includes a moisturizer into your skin. This is where you will have to employ the most prudence. When you are outside in the sun, you want to block some of the sun’s rays, because you want to spend a couple of hours outside.

However, in a way, the reverse is true on a tanning bed, you want to get suntanned and you do not want to spend hours lying on the bed. Therefore, you will need a specialized moisturizer, tanning agent. There are plenty of them in the drugstore, just ask.

A lot of people like to wear a head scarf or bathing hat to shield their hair from drying out. Then there are safety precautions such as goggles to take care of your eyes. Never, in any circumstances, look directly into a tanning lamp while it is on without eye protection. If you are going for an all over tan, you might find it useful to put a few sticking plasters or band-aids over your pink bits or men might require a hankie or a flannel.

Check your tanning bed’s safety timer, before using the bed for the first time and regularly after that. Make sure that it is precise and that you can rely on it. After the tanning bed session, shower and remoisturize to replenish your skin, but not with the same tanner-moisturizer you used to tan with.

You should eat more foods that are rich in vitamin A, like apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, as well as lean beef, lentils, nuts, beans and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which can also be useful in treating acne breakouts. Acne is Not Spots

There are several different kinds of acne, depending on how or why the acne developed. Some of the kinds of acne are: acne conglobata (chronic boils); acne fulminans (an extreme form of conglobata); acne cosmetica (caused by cosmetics); acne keloidalis nuchae (from shaving); acne medicamentosa (caused by starting or stopping a medication); acne rosacea (redness on the face); baby acne; hormonal acne; cloracne and the common variety, acne vulgaris (also known as ‘puberty spots’). In this article, we will concentrate on acne vulgaris.

Acne vulgaris can be described as: ‘an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland). Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits’ (from Wikipedia).

Acne is most common in Western teenagers, although it does occur in every country in the world, so there may be a genetic weakness to it. It is possible that it could be an exceptional reaction to fairly normal levels of testosterone. For most sufferers, the condition lasts only until adulthood, probably only a few years or at most ten. For others, however, it can be a life-long recurring problem. It usually affects the face, upper-chest, upper-arms and back. However, an occasional spot does not constitute acne.

Acne vulgaris appears in various ways, which include: whiteheads, caused by pores that are totally blocked, trapping sebum (oil), bacteria, and dead skin cells, resulting in a white spot on the top; blackheads, resulting from pores which are only partially blocked, allowing some of the trapped sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to slowly drain to the surface (the black colour is not a result of dirt, but is a reaction of the skin’s own pigment, called melanin, with the oxygen in the air); papules, which are inflamed, red, tender lumps with no head and pustules, which are similar to whiteheads, but are inflamed, and appear as red circles with a white or yellow centre.

Whiteheads do not often last for a long time; blackheads can last a long time and pustules are what people call spots or zits. Severe acne vulgaris is characterized by nodules and cysts. A ‘nodule’ is a much larger and more painful type of pustule and can sometimes last for months. Nodules are large, hard lumps just under the skin’s surface. They often result in scarring and should never for any reason be squeezed, since this could cause them to last for months longer.

A ‘cyst’ may look like a nodule, but it is full of pus and has been defined as having a diameter of at least 5mm and, again, can leave scars and cause pain. Squeezing an acne cyst may cause a deeper infection and more painful inflammation which will last very much longer than if it had not been squeezed. Skin experts have methods of lessening the swelling and avoiding scarring with both nodules and cysts. It is not true that acne sufferers are not careful about washing.

In fact, over washing can irritate acne. There are many, many useless ‘treatments’ on the market and many, many old wives’ remedies, but any good skin expert would advise you that there is no known cure for acne and that the patient should follow a deliberate regimen of cleaning until the acne just ‘goes away’ of its own accord.

Pregnant Women And Acne Treatment

During pregnancy is one of those times. As everyone knows, this is a delicate stage in a woman’s life and it is that phase of a woman’s life that she must show extra care of herself. This should also be remembered by those women who may become pregnant. The following are some remedies for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy because they are harmful for the fetus:

Hormonal Treatment that can contain estrogen, flutamide or spirolactone. They are certainly not allowed, because they are harmful and could result in complications for both the mother and her child. It is better regard it as a threat.

Isotretinoin treatment is another one that could put a pregnant woman’s life at risk. Isotretinoin has negative issues as well, especially for pregnant women and those who are breast-feeding. It could cause severe health issues in both the mother and the unborn baby. Therefore, it is advised that a woman who is taking Isotretinoin must be checked by a doctor. Women who are trying to get pregnant must avoid taking Isotretinoin, for it could trigger negative issues not only for mother but most especially for her child.

Oral tetracyclines, which could be made up of doxycycline, tetracycline or minocycline, may not be a choice on any account, because it is harmful. It has been shown that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding should avoid the use of this drug at all costs, because it could have side effects that are nothing short of a threat to the life of you and your baby. However, the most frequent side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone issues.

Topical retinoids, like as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is another group that should be stringently avoided. Just like the afore-mentioned treatments, topical retinoids could be a danger to you and your foetus. No matter whether you are pregnant or not, it is just not wise to use any of the treatments mentioned above.

For those women, who are pregnant and have acne, it really is best to stay away from the heavy treatments mentioned here. Instead, why not settle for traditional remedies, like keeping your hair off your face, washing your face three-four times a day, changing your pillow cases every day and eating more fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food.

Acne Breakouts

However, there are different manners in which to cure acne: you can try medication from a skin specialist or you can try home or natural remedies.

Natural treatments are less time consuming, less costly and have no side effects. However, they do require a bit more patience, since a few routines have to be followed rigorously in order to get rid of the problem once and for all. A home remedy for acne is just as effective as any medication. Here are a few home remedies to cure your acne. To start with, your daily consumption of water ought to be a minimum of eight to ten glasses. This helps you to cleanse your system and destroy the harmful bacteria that cause acne.

A surfeit of oily food also leads to acne, therefore fried and spicy food should be strictly avoided. A near complete abstinence of fried and fatty food will have a marked, beneficial effect on an outbreak of acne. Furthermore, including chromium and zinc in your diet also helps to eradicate acne. There should be the correct combination of diet and hygiene.

Acne should never be squeezed as it may cause infection or / and make it worse. Squeezing your acne can also lead to permanent marks on your skin, which results in your skin looking rough. Don’t let your hair touch the acne-affected area too.

Your hair ought to be kept pulled back to avoid contact with the acne. Pillow covers should be washed on a daily basis to avoid the germ spreading. The regular washing of your skin should be observed to keep it free from germs. Besides this, a healthy lifestyle should be observed with a balanced diet, exercise and sleep. Remember, if you take proper care of yourself, ailments will have less chance of affecting you, especially such a small thing as acne!
